Two days ago, we had our last classes with the boys. It was truly bittersweet to have to say goodbye. On one hand, I’m grateful that I’m done with the classroom work (I’m definitely not going to be a teacher anytime soon) and I’m excited for what’s to come in Columbia. However, I’m also going to miss the boys and the staff more than I ever thought I would. Saying goodbye included a whole lot of hugs, a bunch of gifts and cards, a few tears, and, of course, so many pictures.

Jafet would always make me sit next to him in class. One of his favorite phrases to repeat to himself is “Jesus Power!” On the last day, he brought each of us handmade bracelets and temporary tattoos. I really should’ve remembered that we were taking pictures after class before I put the spider one on my forehead…

Jaret (right) loves to sing and dance! He was one of the first boys out the door when it came time to dance in the rain. His go to song is “We Will Rock You” which he will sing anywhere, anytime. He made me the beautiful card in the picture. Cristhian (left) decided to photo bomb us. I spent lots of time playing card games and practicing his English with him. He is super kind and loves to learn!

Jefferson is one of the older boys and his English is really, really good! We had a running joke where we would constantly tell each other to sit down throughout class. He is extremely kind and is real sweet to the younger boys.

Nick loves to play soccer and is almost done with the formation program. Be praying for him as he continues his schooling!

Molly is the daughter of Alex and Tara and has grown up with Light and Salt Ministries. She speaks both Spanish and English fluently and loves hanging out with Adventures in Missions teams. She loves to dance and is always learning new hip hop moves. We got to celebrate her 12th birthday with her!

Brandon is super sweet and a great dancer and is learning to play the recorder! He made each of us a beautifully decorated card before we left and always makes sure that his hair looks good.

Freddie (left) and Angel (right) made me this incredible dragonfly out of wire! Freddie has an amazing smile that he never shows in pictures, but it definitely comes out during class. Angel is always up to no good but can be really sweet when he wants to be. He gave us lots of hugs before we left.

Do you guys remember Martha from my Serving Behind the Scenes blog?! She is truly one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met. Her generosity and hospitality are unmatched, and she just radiates joy and love. She is absolutely living out loving God and others.

I have so many incredible memories from my time in Nicaragua and I’m thankful that God gave me such a challenging month. These boys have taught me so much and I’m so honored to know them. They will certainly stay in my prayers and heart. The teachers are just as amazing. I honestly still can’t believe that they work with these boys day after day and are always cheerful and loving no matter what. Light and Salt Ministries is making such a huge impact in Ciudad Dario and I’m so thankful that God has allowed me to be there for a tiny part of their journey.

Please keep praying for LASM – for the different programs (Boys Formation, Women’s Sewing, and Mercy in Action), the staff, the Germain family (Tara, Alex, Luis, and Molly) who runs the whole thing and pour their heart and soul into this, and for future growth. Also be praying for my squad as we head to Ciudad Refugio in Columbia!

Before you go, check out this adorable video that Dana made about the birthday party we had for the boys a few weeks ago!

  1. I love seeing the pictures of the people who touched your life in a big way and loved watching the video (for the 2nd time) that Dana & Sav put together. The sunset was surreal!
